Storm watch likely for central Virginia

2:00pm update: The Storm Prediction Center is monitoring our area closely for storm development and according to their latest forecast discussion, a severe thunderstorm watch is likely to be issued soon for western and central Virginia (including Richmond). Clearing skies have allowed the atmosphere to destabilize further and hence the SPC upgraded us from “slight risk” to “enhanced risk” for severe storms.  Again, the main threats are large hail (quarter size) and wind gusts to 60 mph along with frequent lightning and heavy downpours. I’ll be keeping an eye on the radar this afternoon and evening and will have updates as things unfold.
