Flash flood watch issued through Thursday evening

On top of the severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 10pm, a flash flood watch is also in effect, until Thursday evening for all of central and eastern Virginia. Rainfall rates and amounts this evening (1 hour rain totals are already well above an inch) are exceeding what many streams and drains can handle. It doesn’t take much water to sweep vehicles off roads, so if you see water covering a road, as they say, “Turn around, don’t drown.”
