Tropical Storm Grace born; Labor Day forecast update

We now have Tropical Storm Grace, far out in the eastern Atlantic. But first, your Labor Day forecast.

We’re looking at just a few widely scattered afternoon storms the next few days, otherwise mostly sunny. We’ve enjoyed decent temperatures this weekend but the heat will return this week with highs climbing back into the upper 80s and low 90s. Should be a great day at the beach tomorrow! Just be careful in the water, as rough surf and a high risk of rip currents are being forecast for much of the Virginia coast over the next few days. Looking further ahead, shower and storm chances increase towards Thursday with another front approaching.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Grace just emerged off the coast of Africa the other day, and models are in very good agreement on nearly straight westerly track towards the Windward Islands, just to the southeast of Puerto Rico. Intensity models show Grace strengthening in the short-term, to nearly a category 1 hurricane, then weakening some as she encounters the islands. Nothing to be concerned about for the U.S. just yet.
