Timing: snow will begin over the western half of the state Friday morning, and begin in Richmond around noon or shortly thereafter, and continue overnight Friday into Saturday afternoon, wrapping up by Saturday evening.
An important note about this storm, for Saturday. There will likely be a period where the snow slows down or stops altogether. How long this period (often referred to as a “dry slot”) lasts and exactly what part of the state it will affect is still unknown. But don't be fooled, because once the dry slot moves through, the snow will likely resume due to “wrap around” moisture on the back side of the storm as the low pressure starts to pull away. How much additional snow might fall is also a question mark right now. It could be a few inches, or another 5-8 inches, depending on how much moisture remains. Historically, the “wrap around” snowfall tends to be a lot less than the first round. Then again, this is not your typical winter storm.
