Tropical Depression Nine forms, only a concern to Gulf states

Quick update on the tropics…

  • The system I’ve been talking about for what seems like weeks now (Invest 99L), located just north of Cuba, is now officially a tropical depression, and models show it continuing to gradually gain strength and reach tropical storm status this coming week. As for the track, models are coming into agreement on it entering the Gulf of Mexico, then bending back towards the east and cutting across the northern half of Florida back into the Atlantic off the coast of Georgia and then out to sea.

  • Tropical Depression 8, which just formed between Bermuda and the Carolinas. This system will brush the coast of the North Carolina before curving back out to sea, but is not forecast to become any stronger than a low-grade tropical storm. It’s likely that it won’t even bring rain to Virginia except perhaps the coastline. Nothing to worry about.
